Thanksgiving Weekend in Las Vegas

Last year, we celebrated American Thanksgiving in Las Vegas. It was a really amazing trip. We ate at some really cool restaurants both on and off strip, saw a couple shows and did a few other unexpected activities. There is so much to do and see in Las Vegas for everyone - couples, families, friends trips and even alone. I'm so happy we went to Las Vegas last year. It was the last time we were on a plane together and outside of Canada together.

We were fortunate to get discount flights through Swoop airlines out of the Abbotsford airport. Once we arrived, we picked up a car and went straight to District One Vietnamese restaurant to try their lobster pho. It was quite the sight! It was raining so we decided to visit the Mob Museum in the Fremont area. The ticket includes one special experience out of a choice of 3 - crime lab, firearm training simulator and distillery tour and tasting. We decided on the firearm training and it was a lot of fun. A retired police officer walked us through several rooms with real life scenarios. It was kind of like a video game, where you were faced with a situation and had to shoot the bad person before they shot you. We spent a couple hours there and then went back to the strip to check into the Bellagio. It was our first time staying there and we will definitely stay there again! The rooms were so large and luxurious. We picked up a quick dinner from one of the cafe's in the hotel and went to see Cirque de Soleil O. It was in the hotel, so we didn't have to venture far. The performance was remarkable. They had a pool built into the stage and the story and acrobatics were really exciting.

We started our second day with breakfast at SkinnyFats off the strip. It's such a cool place. They have healthy "skinny" options and indulgent "fat" items. Then we did a bit of Black Friday shopping at the Premium Outlets North mall. Some people say this outlet mall is not as good as the south one, but were were able to find some great deals at a few of the stores. We had both never been to Fremont street and had happy hour beers on that strip as we watched people zip line down. That evening we stayed at the Cosmopolitan hotel and ventured to the Bacchanal buffet in the Cesars hotel. The line was a few hours long, but the food was so exceptional. Tip - if you check in on yelp, you can get a free glass of Champaign! We did a bit of gambling at the tables in the Cesars and called it a night.

On our 3 days in Vegas, we decided to check out the gym at the Cosmo. It was packed! We did a quick workout and stopped by Eggsult for breakfast. The food is so good there. We spent the rest of the day walking the strip and exploring the sights. That evening we treated ourselves to Hell's Kitchen. We are both huge fans and it was so cool to see the red and blue kitchens in action. We tried all of Gordon Ramsey's famous dishes including the pan seared scallops, lobster risotto, beef wellington and sticky toffee pudding. We also had the seared fois gras which came with most delicious shortbread cookies. That evening was watched Absenthe the show, which was in an outdoor tent right next to Hell's Kitchen. The show was good - very different, somewhat raunchy, but with some unique acts. It's noted to be one of the best shows in Vegas, but I'm not confident I can agree with that.

Our flight was on Sunday night, so we had the whole day for fun activities. We started off with watching some Sunday football at the Beer Park bar and then went to the shooting range. It was our first time shooting guns and at the range. Vegas doesn't have a lot of regulations, so you could shoot pretty much any type of gun you would like. The range had many per-cautions in place and our instructor was excellent. It was a great experience and something we would like to try again. We had dinner in the airport lounge and then we were on our flight back home. It was an awesome four days and nice little trip.

I miss airport lounges, packing and planning a getaway. This year has gone by super fast, but it has also felt very busy and without a break. Looking forward to the vaccine in 2021 and getting back to travel and visiting places again.
