I’ve been a Causebox subscriber for almost 3 years now. Causebox is a US based subscription box that aims to provide fairly, ethically and sustainably made goods from around the world. Each box has 5-7 items as well as a magazine and postcard. It comes in a cute box and is very nicely packaged. It is available quarterly, but you can subscribe annually for a discount. The annual subscription is $199 USD and the quarterly subscription is $54.99 USD. I am an annual subscriber. There is an additional fee of $7.95 USD per box for Canadian shipping. My credit card price after USD conversion was $309.17 CAD or $77.30 CAD per box. I renew every September and my price is based on the USD to CAD conversation rate at that time.
The boxes range in items and it really is a surprise every quarter. Items I’ve received in the past include purses, sprays, candles, jewelry, accessories, stationary and more. In every box, there were at least a few things that I really liked (and wasn’t expecting to like!). This Causebox was super special because there were a lot of really nice, high value items.
My summer box included:
1. PMD Clean Brush (I picked blue and gold. It’s so beautiful) – Retail $99 USD
2. Feya Candle Co Reed Diffuser (I picked Bergamot & Grapefruit) – Retail $24 USD
3. Doctor Rogers RESTORE Healing Balm (choice product) – Retail $30 USD
4. Pepper + Vetiver Set of 3 Nesting Bowls – Retail $49 USD
5. AltCooking Hub Silicone Stretch Lids – Set of 6 – Retail $8 USD
6. Honua Skincare Malu Day Cream SPF 30 (choice product) - Retail $42 USD
7. Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum – Retail $25 USD
The PMD Clean Brush is like a Clarisonic mixed with a Fereo Luna but better. Its battery powered and doesn’t required charging and comes in a range of colours, including a sophisticated dark blue with gold accents. The handle is very flexible, and it has 3 different speeds. The back side can be used to apply serums or lotions. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is hard to get it to stand. Although there is a small stand provided, it’s fell over a few times already. Best to place it flat or inside something.
The Feya Candle Co Reed Diffuser smells so good. The Bergamot & Grapefruit scent is so perfect for summer. I absolutely love how fun and fruity it is. I’ve placed it on my desk to keep me motivated through the workday. I wasn’t too familiar with reed diffusers and it’s really simple to use. You just place the reeds in the bottle. The more reeds, the stronger the scent in the room. The bottle has a very sleek, minimalistic look to it and would go with any décor.
The Doctor Rogers RESTORE Healing Balm is very effective. My cuticles, knees and heels are super dry and the balm helped immediately. The product smells very chemical like though and isn’t purposely scented. It’s also very sticky, so if applying to heels you would need to wear socks or wait a bit for it to absorb.
The Pepper + Vetiver Oceania Nesting bowls are absolutely stunning. Pictures do not do them justice. I am tempted to purchase a second set because they are so pretty. The sizes of the bowls and the quality are both excellent also. They are dishwasher/microwave safe (I tried both) and if you do end up purchasing them the proceeds go to the Mala fund to support girls around the world obtain education.
The silicone reusable food cover seals were a nice addition. I don’t think I would have every considered buying these on my own, so they are nice to have. The range of sizes is very good, and they should fit bowls in most kitchens. The two smaller sizes would be good for a cup or small jar with a sauce or jelly.
The Honua Skincare Malu Day Cream is packaged beautifully, and the bottle is very high quality. The texture of the cream is a mix of mineral sunscreen and face cream. It takes a few minutes to settle, but once it does it is colourless. There is a strong floral scent which I don’t mind that much but if you are sensitive to smells it could be a challenge.
Finally, the Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I learned about Hyaluronic acid from a book I read either this year called Glow from Within. It’s really great for dry skin and helps hydrate the skin and keep it plump and wrinkle free. I didn’t see any magic after the first time using it and might keep it on hand for the winter when my skin is a bit drier.
Total retail price = $277 USD
My price = $77.30 CAD
Rating = 5/5
The items that I love the most in this box are the PMD clean brush, the nesting bowls and the reed diffuser. The other items are nice to have and fun to try. Overall, even with just those 3 items, the value far outweighs what I paid for the box this season ($172 USD vs $77 CAD). Looking forward to seeing what is included in the fall box.
