Summer is my favourite time to test new beauty products and use up any existing samples or trial size products. Since I've been working from home since mid-March, I haven't been wearing makeup as often and have been better able to test if the products are working. Some of these items I've been using for years and absolutely love. Others are recent discoveries, some good and some I won’t be repurchasing.
Bioderma Micelle Solution - $20 for 500ml
I’ve been using this product for years and absolutely love it. It takes off waterproof mascara and eyeliner, eyeshadow, heavy foundation and so much more. It’s a great first step to a double cleansing routine. The 500ml bottle lasts me just over a year.
Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment - $112 for 30ml
This is another product I’ve been using for years and absolutely love. It’s an exfoliating treatment that I usually apply at night every few days. It tingles a bit, but I find it keeps my skin clear and smooth. Lactic acid kills bacteria and helps exfoliate. A bonus is that it smells like fruit loops!
Origins Mega Mushroom Relief & Resilience Treatment Lotion - $44 for 200ml
The name of this product is a bit misleading as it’s actually a toner! I received a trial size version in an Origins skincare kit and had it sitting in the back of a drawer. Once I realized it was a toner, I thought I’d give it a try. It’s very hydrating, but form my sample size, I didn’t see any changes in my skin. For the price, it’s not worth it for me. It would be great for those with super dry skin and those who use a toner regularly.
Sol de Janeira Brazillian Bum Bum Cream - $26 for 75ml
I bought this product on a whim while in line at Sephora. It smells so good and really helps with stretch marks. You can get a trial size version as your birthday gift if you are thinking of giving it a try!
Tatcha Water Cream - $26 for 10ml
I was eyeing this product for a while and finally had the chance to try it with my sephora points. It came in a little kit with a cleanser for 300 points. I’m so happy I did, because it’s so unique. It’s a gel like consistency and melts into your skin like water. It’s perfect for oily skin year round and nice for dry skin in the summer. This is one I purchased a full size of for the rest of the summer.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 styling treatment - $21 for 60ml
This is a great product for taming frizz and keeping your straight hair styles in place. I don’t usually like using product in my hair, but found this one to be great to use prior to blow drying and straightening. I don’t use it for curling because I find it weighs my hair down a bit and the curls come loose faster.
Fresh Sugar Lip Caramel - $24 for 6g
This stuff smells divine. It’s a nice product to layer on top of lip balm or lipstick. It absorbs really quickly, so it’s perfect if you don’t like the feeling of having something on your lips.
Philosophy take a deep breath Oxygenating Gel Cream - $49 for 60ml
This is a highly rated product, but didn’t work well for me unfortunately. I found the moisturizer didn’t absorb into my skin and left an oily film on top. I tried using it under makeup as well as at night. I ended up using this product on my body.
Happy to have finished these products and cleared some space in my cupboard for more products this fall! Stay tuned for part II of the summer beauty empties next week!
