Now that the weather is getting much hotter, I find myself craving an ice cold alcoholic beverage almost every evening. Although a small glass of rosé (4oz), Nude or White Claw all have 100 calories each, I often want more than one. If you are in a similar boat and looking for something yummy and delicious to sip on that won't set you back 100s of calories everyday, this is the drink for you.
I call it "the summer smash". It's not really summer and nothing gets smashed, but I liked the alliteration. The ingredients are all super low cost and you can add a shot of vodka or gin after hours if you like. One shot of vodka/gin is around 100 calories.
2L water or sparkling water
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup frozen mango
12 mint leaves (I used 6 pineapple mint and 6 spearmint)
4 TBS lemon juice
The mint and fruits add a nice flavour to the water that is further brought out by the lemon juice. Fun fact - lemon juice has zero calories. If you end up eating the fruit the calories are minimal and you get some vitamin C!
